Kohala Country Guest House
Hey Bobi!, What a great place, with wonderful people & animals to boot. Thanks for providing me with a spot so I could pursue my path. Playing guitar with John was so pono! Keep on at'em girl, may you be booked solid.     Wendy, BC Canada

Why should we travel 2500 miles across the sea for a vacation when hidden treasures like Kohala Country Adventures are right in our "backyard". Fa'afetai hava! Alicia and Roy Oahu, Hi.

As you drive along the starkly beautiful Kohala Coast Road 270, with whales breeching and spouting in winter months, you'll come to the lush landscape of our historic villages of Hawi and Kapaau, highlighting the "Big Islands" diversity in art, fine woodworking, unique crafts and jewelry. Treat yourself to a variety of excellent cuisine from world specials to world class gourmet.

See the colorful architecture of our renovated plantation towns and our country churches. Visit Kalahikiola Church on the Bond Estate with it's old macadamia nut trees and legacy of education and dedication of the missionaries who committed themselves to Kohala over 170 years ago. You will be welcome to visit O Bon dances at Japanese temples and see the beautiful Chinese Revolutionary Society. Kohala has a fantastic annual Country Fair in October, Summer Slack Key Festival and Kamehameha day parade and Celebration on June 11.

Experience the Kohala Mountain Road.

One of the worlds most beautiful drives past working ranches with cattle, horses and sheep. See Paniolo Country with great horseback riding, ranch eco tours and even a cowboy dinner. You'll marvel at expansive views of Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Hualalai, the Kohala coast and some of the most fantastic cloud formations you'll ever see..! Rich in history, culture and natural beauty, North Kohala is a land of incredible adventure.
E komo mai. Come, enjoy our Aloha
Above all, we are proud of our renown, born and raised in Kohala, Hawaiian musicians and graceful authentic dancers, masters of hula, both modern and ancient. You won't want to leave town without hearing the music of renown John Keawe, virtuoso of the slack key. Perhaps as he performs while you delight in a sumptuous weekend dinner at our famous Bamboo Restaurant. Take home one of his CDs along with favorite singer and story teller Uncle Kindy Sproat who's entertained at the Grand old Opry and Carnegie Hall; You can also own the harmonies of the talented Lim family whom you can hear at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on Tuesday nights. The Lim Halau won the coveted Merry Monarch Hawaiian Dance Festival last year. This is genuine tradition! Kohala no ka oe. (The best)
