GENERAL INFORMATION State parks are open year-round. Fees are charged for various accommodations, guided tours of 'Iolani Palace, riverboat cruises to Fern Grotto in Wailua River State Park, and other special uses. Refer to the following fee schedule or call the telephone numbers provided for more information about fee rates. Please refer the individual park descriptions for details on hours, permit restrictions, and special uses. Camping fees for Hawaii State Parks are $5.00 per campsite per night, with the exception of Na Pali Coast State Park, Kaua'i. The fee for camping in Na Pali Coast State Park, which has camping areas at Hanakapi'ai, Hanakoa, Kalalau and Miloli'i, is $10.00 per person per night. Lodging fees for Hawaii State Parks range from $20.00 per night for screened A-Frame shelters to $55.00 per night for a group cabin. See below for more specific fee schedule. WITHOUT NOTICE. Permit Information Permits can be obtained at any district office of the Division of State Parks with the following exceptions:
General Permit Procedures Permits are issued Monday through Friday, except State holidays. Permits can be obtained by persons 18 years or older. To inquire about permit availability, you may call (808) 587-0300, M-F, 8am 3:30pm, HST (2-3 hours earlier than the West Coast). Applications

Permit
applications may be submitted no earlier than 1 year in advance.
The exception is:
Applications may be submitted to the Division of State Parks in writing, or at the counter of any district office. Priority for camping and lodging permits, subject to certain other provisions, will be in the following order: 1) walk-in applicants, 2) mail-in applicants. To inquire about permit availability prior to submitting an application, call (808) 587-0300, M-F, 8am-3:30pm, HST (2-3 hours earlier than the West Coast). A permit will be issued to you at the district office. In the case of mail-in applicants, the permit can be either mailed to you or held at the appropriate district office for pick up. If you would like the permit mailed to you, please include a self addressed, stamped envelope. The permit and acceptable identification must be brought to the park and shall upon request, be shown to law enforcement officers and other authorized personnel. The district office must be notified of cancellations prior to the date of the proposed event and the permit must be returned to the district office. Unused camping and lodging permits not cancelled in advance will be counted towards the number of nights one is allowed to remain at the facility. Permits are not transferable.
Group Use Permits
Permits are required for groups of 26 or more picnickers or other day users. Permits may be issued for hours between 7:00am and midnight of the same day except for park areas that are normally closed before midnight. Minors below the age of 18 who stay beyond 7:00pm must have adult supervision of 1 responsible adult for every 10 or fewer minors. The adult-minor ratio does not apply to immediate families when the children are accompanied by at least one of their parents. Regardless of group size, permits are required for use of the pavilions at the following park areas:
Camping and Lodging Permits
Permits are required for camping or lodging. The maximum
length of stay allowable under each permit at any one
park is 5 consecutive nights. Another camping or lodging
permit for the same park cannot be issued to any adult
covered under a previous permit until 30 days have
elapsed.
Camping and lodging are available 7 nights a week with
the following exceptions:
Minors below the age of 18 shall be allowed to camp
provided that they are under the direct supervision of 1
responsible adult for every 10 or fewer minors. The
adult-minor ratio does not apply to immediate families
when the children are accompanied by at least one of
their parents.
To confirm reservations, State operated camping areas require a full payment of the total cost of the camping no later than 2 weeks after a tentative reservation is issued. For cabin reservations, a 50% deposit of the total cost of the lodging is required. If the payment is not received within two weeks, the reservation will be cancelled. For cabins, the remaining payment is due upon or before issuance of the cabin key. For O`ahu parks and for reservations made 30 days or less prior to the first night of camping, payment in full (by any accepted means other than personal or business check) is due at the time of making the reservation. Payment, unless otherwise specified, shall be in cash, cashier's check, certified check, postal money order or bank money order. We do not accept credit card payments. Checks are to be made payable to Department of Land and Natural Resources. Personal or business checks will be accepted only if payment is received more than 30 days before the date of the event, therefore checks will not be accepted for O`ahu camping. Refund of deposit will be made only if the district office that issued the permit receives notification of the cancellation 15 days or more before the first occupancy date shown on the permit. The original permit must be returned to that office prior to processing the refund. Partially paid cabin reservations shall be cancelled and any deposits forfeited if the permittee does not check-in on the first day of the reservation. Additional information, such as check-in and check-out times, where to pick up the key, and where to pay the balance due, will be provided when the reservation is confirmed.
These
4-person shelters are available only at Hapuna Beach State
Recreation Area, Hawai'i. These shelters consist of a single
screened room with wooden sleeping platforms and a picnic
table. Centrally located is a pavilion with a range,
refrigerator, and tables. Comfort Stations with cold showers
and restrooms are available for shared use by all shelters.
Single units and duplex cabins accommodate a maximum of 6 persons each at Wai'anapanapa State Park and a maximum of 10 persons at Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area, Maui. These cabins consist of units with a kitchen-living room, a bathroom, and 1-3 bedrooms. Each unit is completely furnished with bedroom and kitchen furniture, electric range, refrigerator, hot shower, bathroom, bedding, linen, towels, dishes, and cooking and eating utensils. Fireplaces or electric heating are provided in cold mountain areas. No electricity, refrigerator or linen is available at Polipoli Spring.
A
maximum of 64 persons can be accommodated in group cabins at
Mauna Kea State Recreation Area and 32 persons at Kalopa
State Recreation Area, Hawai'i. These accommodations consist
of 8-person units provided with beds, bedding, linen, toilet
facilities, and hot shower. A centrally located recreational
dining hall is fully equipped for cooking and serving the
entire group. Furnishings include a gas range, water heater,
refrigerator, freezer, dishes, cooking and eating utensils,
tables and chairs, as well as restrooms. Electric heater is
provided at Mauna Kea.
Lodging and Camping Facilities Operated by State Parks
Full payment in advance required on all camping fees
WITHOUT NOTICE.
Special use permits may be required for certain
activities other than group use, pavilions, camping,
and lodging. Special uses include but are not
limited to such activities as meetings, weddings,
shows, community events, scientific research, and
gathering of forest products. Each special use
permit shall be considered on its own merit and must
be compatible with the functions and purposes of
each individual area.
Special use permit requests must be submitted at
least 45 days before the requested date of use. For

FOREST RESERVE TRAILS
The Division of Forestry and Wildlife administrative
rules apply within the forest reserves. Permits are
required for certain trails, trail camps, and other
forest recreation activities. During periods of
extreme fire danger, the affected forest reserves
may be closed to the public. For more information,
contact the Division of Forestry and Wildlife
district offices.
HUNTING AND FISHING
Licenses are required for hunting and freshwater fishing. State fish and game laws and administrative rules apply. Licenses may be purchased from license agents at the district offices. State fishing regulations are also available from the district offices. The Department of Land and Natural Resources receives financial support under the Federal Aid Programs.
